THE PROGRAM

Leadership Pikes Peak has served the Pikes Peak region for over 45 years through a variety of programs. Leadership Now! is a leadership program that exists to engage, support, and mobilize young professionals as meaningful members of our community. LNow! trains them in leadership skills and civic-mindedness, and plugs them into the life and leadership of the Pikes Peak Region. LNow! runs from August to December.

If you are a young professional who wants to be plugged into the community, to know what is going on and how to affect it, to lead effectively as an individual and as part of a group, to make the Pikes Peak Region a better place, then Leadership Now! is for you.

Leadership Now! uses the best in current leadership thinking and application to help young professionals, in their 20s and early 30s, finish the program well equipped to lead. We call it Leadership Now! for exactly that reason– LNow! graduates are given the knowledge, skills, and relationships to be civic leaders now.

Leadership Now! is not an academic course. It is an opportunity to combine your motivation with leadership practices and civic knowledge for personal and group impact.

The program accomplishes this with a combination of training and exercises, visits to key organizations, meetings with effective leaders, and group projects that provide real strategic assistance to local nonprofits and agencies. As with everything at Leadership Pikes Peak, our goal isn’t just to make you a better civic leader–it is to make you a better civic leader here and now.

OBJECTIVES AND GOALS

Leadership of the Self

One of the first steps to leadership development is to understand ourselves – who we are, what we can do, and how we are perceived by others. For leadership to be actualized, we must understand our position in the Pikes Peak community by exploring our individual strengths, personality types, abilities, passions, and potential for personal growth.

Leadership of our Communities

A critical component of leadership development is learning how to apply our abilities to our own personal communities. A personal community is an intimate network of people with whom we align ourselves, and the places, issues, and organizations we rally around in our city.

Leadership of our City

Developing community trustees requires us to know where and how we can make a difference in the greater Pikes Peak community. LPP introduces participants to community leaders and informs them of local challenges. Program graduates will increase their confidence, skills, and abilities to strengthen the city, thus becoming community trustees.

THE EXPERIENCE

In twelve four-hour sessions, the class of young professionals learns the history of the Pikes Peak Region, is exposed to the various sectors in our region, gains knowledge of self-development, and develops leadership skills. The 50+ hour program offers new community leadership topics such as an in-depth look and assessment of the Myers Briggs Personality Assessment, Emotional Intelligence, Conflict Resolution, Inclusive Leadership, and Team Dynamics. In addition, this community leadership program offers topic-specific locations to explore and community leaders to meet. Participants explore topics such as Arts & Culture, Public Safety, Local Government, Health & Wellness, and Cybersecurity, just to name a few.

In addition to session days, participants complete community service group projects. These projects are proposed by local nonprofits who are looking for a young professional perspective within their organizations. The projects allow participants to practice creative thinking and community stewardship as they apply what they are learning in the LNow! program to a project that makes a lasting impact on our community. The Class of 2021 worked with The Becky Baker Foundation, The Golden Lotus Foundation, and Solid Rock CDC.

Tuition is $1,050 with scholarships and payment plans available.

Applications for the Class of 2023 cohort open on March 1, 2023
